Seller Verification & Trust Policy — HomeKampung
v0.4.4 · Last revised 6 November 2026 · In force since 1 Nov 2026
Status, stated first because it changes how you should read this page. The food-safety verification badge is BUILT and live. A seller uploads their certificate from Settings (stored encrypted), an operator approves or rejects it, and an approved shop shows "✓ Food-safety verified" on its shop page. The separate Muslim-owned label is self-declared and unverified, and is labelled as such on the page.
What is live today
| Label on the shop page | What it means | What it does NOT mean |
|---|---|---|
| ✓ Food-safety verified (check icon) | A HomeKampung operator reviewed a food-safety course certificate the seller uploaded and approved it. HomeKampung's word. | It is not a food licence, not an SFA inspection, and says nothing about their kitchen. Shops that do not sell food cannot earn it: we approve it only for food shops. |
| Muslim-owned (self-declared) (person icon) | The seller ticked this themselves in their settings. The seller's word. Nobody has checked it. | It is not a halal certification, and no document was reviewed. Halal certification in Singapore is issued by MUIS, not by us. |
That is the whole list. If a shop page shows anything else that looks like a
verification mark, it is a mistake — please tell us at dpo@homekampungsg.com.
Both labels also explain themselves on hover, and /how-it-works prints these
two rows for buyers.
We do not guarantee any seller's compliance. Always exercise your own judgement as a buyer.
The two badge tiers
| Badge | What it means | What it does NOT mean | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Food Safety Course Verified | The seller uploaded a WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1 certificate and an operator reviewed and approved it | Not a food licence, not an SFA inspection, says nothing about their kitchen | Live |
| Self-Declared Compliant | The seller ticked a compliance checkbox. Unverified. | No document was reviewed | Not built. No such checkbox exists; the only self-declaration on the page is Muslim-owned |
The same two-tier pattern is intended for future verification types (for example SAFETY Mark declarations for electrical items).
Uploading a certificate is not the same as being verified — the badge appears only after review.
The verification process, as it is
- The seller uploads the certificate in Settings. Live. The file is encrypted before storage under a key our hosting provider does not hold.
- An operator reviews it against the seller's name and shop, through a signed-in route that only operators can use. Live. That access is not logged — an access log is committed work.
- Approved: the badge appears. Live. No verification date is shown, and a rejection gives no reason: the seller's console simply returns to "Not uploaded". Re-submission works. Showing the date and the reason are committed work; the status field has three states (none, pending, verified) and would need a fourth for a reasoned rejection.
- Expiry handling ("verification lapsed" when a certificate expires) is not built. A badge stays until an operator revokes it.
When we reject or revoke, or the seller uploads a replacement, the previous certificate is deleted from storage.
Reporting a badge
If you believe a shop holds a badge it should not, email dpo@homekampungsg.com with the shop's address. We will check the document on file and revoke the badge if it does not hold up. We are not publishing a response-time commitment for badge reports until there is a queue behind one to honour it; review reports have a queue and a 24-hour aim (Community Guidelines), badge reports do not yet.
Badge integrity
Selling, lending, or forging verification documents; using another person's certificate; or misrepresenting what a badge means in your own marketing, will result in the badge being removed and may end your account. Removing a badge also deletes the certificate we hold.
